Printing a Greener Future: Sustainability in the Print Industry
How Elanders is printing with the Planet in Mind
The printing in industry faces significant environmental challenges – and Elanders is meeting them head-on. As a global company with a strong foundation in print and packaging, we are committed to driving a more sustainable future. Here’s how we’re making that happen.
What Sustainable Materials Does Elanders Use?
FSC®-Certified Paper:
Our printed products can be produced on FSC®-certified paper, ensuring materials are sourced from responsibly managed forests that support environmental protection.
Eco-Friendly Packaging:
Our packaging solutions emphasize biodegradable materials and minimize plastic use. This includes safe and sustainable alternatives for take-away and food packaging.
How Does Elanders Reduce Energy Use?
Solar Power in Production:
In Hungary, solar panels now generate 40% of the facility’s electricity needs, cutting down around 312 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.
eSaver Energy Module:
This innovative system works like a hybrid car, capturing and reusing surplus energy to reduce electricity use by 8% at large logistics sites.
What Is Elanders Doing to Cut Waste?
Print-on-Demand:
We print only what’s needed – no more, no less. This approach reduces waste, cuts inventory costs, and avoids excess production, making it both eco- and budget-friendly.
Renewed Tech Program:
We recondition used IT equipment for resale. In 2024 alone, we processed over 190,000 devices – saving more than 44,000 tons of CO₂ equivalents.
What Are Elanders’ Sustainability Goals?
We’ve committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and aim to be net zero across our value chain by 2050. Our climate targets will be submitted for official validation in 2025.
Milestones on our journey:
- 50% reduction in CO₂ emissions (Scope 1 & 2) by 2030
- 75% reduction in CO₂ emissions (Scope 1 & 2) by 2040
